Announced: Windows Server 8 is now Windows Server 2012

Microsoft has announced the name for upcoming Windows Server 8(which is BETA now, and you can download it through MSDN Subscriptions) and it will be called as “Windows Server 2012” .

Windows Server 2012 includes a number of new features or feature changes. It would be purely a Server for Cloud and User interface similar to the METRO interface Windows 8 have.

Windows Server 2012, offers businesses and hosting providers a scalable, dynamic, and multitenant-aware, cloud-optimized infrastructure. It securely connects across premises and allows IT Professionals to respond to business needs faster and more efficiently.

Microsoft has indicated that Windows Server 2012 will not support 32-bit (IA-32) or Itanium (IA-64) processors,  the following system requirements are for the beta, and are subject to change in the final release.

Minimum system requirements for Windows Server 8 Beta
Architecture x86-64 (64-bit)
Processor 1.4 GHz
Memory (RAM) 512 MB
HDD free space 32 GB (more if there is more than 16 GB of RAM)
