Service Pack 4 (SP4) for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is now available for download. SQL Server 2005 service packs are cumulative, and this service pack upgrades all service levels of SQL Server 2005 to SP4 . You can use these packages to upgrade any of the following SQL Server 2005 editions:

  • Enterprise
  • Enterprise Evaluation
  • Developer
  • Standard
  • Workgroup

SQL Server 2005 SP4 includes SQL Server 2005 SP3 cumulative update 1 to 11, customer requested fixes, along with instances of the SQL Server 2005 SP4 database Engine support for DAC operations.

Microsoft has announced the preview version of their next generation of SQL Server database software code named “Denali”

Quoting from MSDN Download Center

SQL Server code-named ‘Denali’ helps empowers organizations to be more agile in today’s competitive market. Customers will more efficiently deliver mission-critical solutions through a highly scalable and available platform. Industry-leading tools help developers quickly build innovative applications while data integration and management tools help deliver credible data reliably to the right users and extended managed self-service BI capabilities enable meaningful insights.

With SQL Server code-named ‘Denali’ customers will benefit from the following added investments:

  • Enhanced mission-critical platform: A highly available and scalable platform designed to with greater flexibility, lower TCO, ease of use, and the performance required by the most mission-critical applications.

SQL Server 2008 R2 development is going on.

Recently i got download of  SQL Server 2008 R2  CTP- (R2 Stands for Release-2 , CTP- Community Technology Preview) from TECHNET Subscriber downloads.

I’m not sure what’s new in this release. probably bug fix on SQL Server 2008  plus support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2..
